Today was our last conditioning day for our high school program. We had a pretty consistent turn out for the past 6 weeks. Time will tell if it was time well spent and we addressed the areas that our players needed to focus on. We managed our work to rest ratio in such a manner that we were able to sustain work above and beyond our target goals.
Player participation was very consistent and it was great to see the commitment level remain high throughout the process. In spite of the comments to the contrary, the players will be glad of their accomplishments when we hit mid-season, but for now, I will have to settle for being the unpopular coach.
One of the things I wanted to make sure of this year was that we keep conditioning practices appropriate for each age we were working with. We did a good job of keeping best practices in place and keeping enough variety in the workouts that players did not hit burn-out on the cyclic routines.
Try outs begin next week, we are all ready and eager to get underway. Let the games begin….
till I see you on the pitch
